The gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has denied collecting N500 million from the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to bolster his campaign to unseat Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

A national daily, The Nation, reported that the fund was part of Emefiele’s “fresh plot” against President-elect Bola Tinubu.

The CBN governor has denied the allegation, maintaining that he has never met or interacted with Rhodes-Vivour in his life.

Tinubu, who owns The Nation, is the political godfather of Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking a second term as Lagos governor.

In a tweet, Rhodes-Vivour described the report as a “fictional piece” from the “APC lying machinery”.

He said he remained unfazed by the antics of those that have captured Lagos and deceived its people for the past 20 years.

“I have read the fictional pieces from the devilish, deceptive, irresponsible and largely incoherent stable of the APC lying machinery.

“I will not respond to these tales by moonlight. I would only want to let Lagosians know the heart and the character of those who have captured their state and deceived them for 20 years.

“This machinery has failed, this house has collapsed, it’s a new day and a new order is here.

“Lagosians, we have started and we will finish and I promise you, even the young minds they have brainwashed, hypnotised and incentivised with peanuts in exchange for their future will be proud of our administration in the next four years.

“We are prepared to liberate lagos from this legendary shackle,” Rhodes-Vivour said.
