The Federal Roads Safety Corps has suspended the enforcement of the new driver’s license and license plate after separate court judgments in Lagos and Abuja declared the scheme illegal.

FRSC spokesman, Jonas Agwu said in a statement in Abuja that the June 30 deadline would be extended pending the outcome of the appeal by the FRSC.

FRSC said the court never challenged its authority to design and produce the new license plates “but only questioned its powers to fix deadline for enforcement of the new scheme, as confirmed by the recent directive from the Joint Tax Board which has the statutory powers to fix prices and set deadlines for implementation of the new number plate and driver’s license.”
