Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA ) on Friday condemned the continuous massacre of villagers in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected Fulani armed herdsmen.

Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko, the National Coordinator of the group gave the condemnation in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The statement blamed the apathy and complete inaction of the Federal Government in halting the large scale killings as responsible for the motivation of the armed hoodlums.

It said that the hoodlums were currently ravaging all parts of Nigeria and no serious action was being taken by the government.

The statement called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the continuous killings of innocent Nigerians.

It called for the dismissal of the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of Department of State Service for their failure to effectively police Nigeria.

The statement also called on the Benue State House of Assembly to set up a civilian joint task force which must be armed and funded to protect the lives and property of their citizens.

It said that the primary role of government was the security of lives and property of the citizens.

The statement called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to investigate the allegations that the Nasarawa State government was providing logistical support for those responsible for the mass killings. (NAN)
