In the United States of America, it is an offence to prank emergency services but a 2-year-old baby did it, albeit unintentionally, and escaped reprimand.

The girl, Aaliyah Ryan, from South Carolina had problems with putting on her pants, and dialled 911.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said it dispatched an officer on Wednesday to investigate when a 911 call was dropped after what sounded like a baby’s voice was heard.

Speaking on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the officer that investigated the incident, Martha Lohnes, said: “I show up and she comes to the door with her pants half on, saying she can’t get them on. So I sit down on the stairs and help her put pants on. And then she proceeds to ask me to pick her up and hug her…..and that would be the best part of my shift today.”

The officer expressed her delight that the child knew what to do in an emergency, though she still doesn’t know what constitutes an emergency.

The girl’s mother, Pebbles Ryan, expressed surprise on hearing about the incident, as she was not around when it happened and had left her daughter with a caregiver.

She said she had taught her daughter what number to call in an emergency but didn’t know that she actually remembered or that she could actually do it.
