Governing council suspends staff unions in Oyo College of Agriculture

The Governing Council of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH) has suspended activities of all staff unions in the institution following their refusal to suspend a three and a half month-old strike.

This suspension was announced in a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary of the council, Mr. Niyi Fehintola, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Ibadan on Saturday.

The unions affected are Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).

NAN recalls that the unions had embarked on indefinite strike over non-payment of backlog of salary arrears and poor welfare.

The council accused the unions of hindering access into the institution by locking the gates thereby preventing officials and visitors from going about their lawful businesses.

The council said that the activities of all staff unions in the institution were suspended with immediate effect, and directed all staff to resume work.

The council also directed the management to open attendance for staff to sign, invoke the ‘No work, No pay’ policy of government, dissolve the students’ union and declare two weeks break for the students.

It urged members of staff to resume work immediately sign the attendance register and go about their normal duties without fear of molestation
