The seemingly smooth transition into power of the current Ooni of Ife elect Adeyeye Ogunwusi has suffered its first scandal as it emerged that the monarch to be may have been involved in an alleged N400M fraud.

A human rights group Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute the newly appointed Ooni of Ife on charges of alleged fraud.

The CHRSJ expressed the sentiment via a letter written by its Chairman, Mr Adeniyi Sulaiman to the Chairman of the EFCC.

The letter reads:

“We wish to refer the Honourable Chairman to the contents of   a weighty petition involving various acts of criminality namely forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining the sum of N400m by false presence levied against the above named person.”

“We also refer the chairman to the EFCC’s letter dated 17th September 2015 to Principal Partner, Olawoyin (Legal Practitioners) and a letter dated 23rd September 2015 from Olawoyin & Olawoyin (Legal Practitioners) to EFCC on the same subject matter.”

“In view of the foregoing. We hereby request your commission to prosecute immediately upon the receipt of this letter.”

It is still unclear at this point if the EFCC will heed the group’s call and open an investigation concerning the Ooni-elect’s alleged involvement in the matter.
