Hillary Clinton Bows to Chimamanda Pressure, Changes Twitter Bio

2 Min Read

Former Presidential aspirant, Hillary Clinton has bowed to the pressure of Nigerian writer and social critic, Chimamanda Adichie and changed her Twitter bio.

The two had sat down for a chat in which the author pointed out that she was a bit miffed that even with all of Clinton’s achievements and accolades, she started her Twitter bio with the word ‘Wife’

“In your Twitter account, the first word that describes you is ‘Wife.’ And then I think it’s ‘Mom,’ and then it’s ‘Grandmother. And when I saw that, I have to confess that I felt just a little bit upset.

“And then I went and I looked at your husband’s Twitter account, and the first word was not ‘husband,’” Adichie said

The comment sparked fierce debate online as many saw this as a bold move for feminism while others just saw it as abrasive.

It was argued that it was Clinton’s choice to identify as a wife and that it was well within her rights to do so. Others argued that if a world leader like Clinton only saw herself as a wife first then what are other forward-thinking women supposed to do.
