How Military officer imported COVID-19 from India – Gov Akeredolu reveals

Executive Governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has thrown more light on the index case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

The Herald earlier reported that Ondo state Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo announced the first COVID-19 case in the state.

Gov Akeredolu has further revealed more details on the index case. He disclosed a military officer who had just  returned from India days ago was the carrier of the deadly infection.

He also said the state’s COVID-19 patient will be transported to Lagos state soon where he would receive proper medical treatment at the Infectious Disease Centre.

“The index case is a military officer who was a returnee from India. He has been in isolation since he returned and has been monitored by the medical team of the Military and our state team throughout this period.”

“Upon showing some symptoms, his samples were taken and the diagnosis confirmed by NCDC at their lab in Ede. We have now commenced the transfer of the officer to the state isolation centre.”

Nigeria has recorded 210 cases of COVID-19 as the evening of April 3, 2020.
