The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has promised to support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State despite belonging to separate political parties.

He said this as a guest at a conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) held in Eko Hotels, Lagos on Tuesday.

Wike said his decision to attend the event was due to the Lagos governor’s performance in office.

“If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well, even if he belongs to my party, I won’t come. So, for me, if you are in my party and you are not doing well, you won’t see me.

“If you are not in my party and you are doing well, you will see me and that is what I stand for. And I will not regret to say that I’m in support of you,” Wike said.

Sanwo-Olu is vying for a second term in office in the 2023 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike will complete his second term in 2023.

Alongside four other PDP governors, the Rivers governor is at loggerheads with his party’s leadership.

Wike has continued to demand the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, saying it negates the principles of equity, fairness, and justice for any region of the country to hold the positions of national chairman and presidential candidate of the party.
