Alleged $40m Fraud: Jonathan’s Cousin Still In Prison Despite being granted bail

It has been gathered that cousin to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Azibola Roberts  and his wife remain in Kuje prison despite being granted bail.

According to the Vanguard, this is because they have been unable to fulfill their bail conditions.

Recall that Justice Nnamdi Dimgba who delivered the ruling set their collective bail at N1bn with the promise of two sureties who were to deposit N500m each and who were also required to own landed property in the Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja.

Justice Dimgba had also stressed that they were only to be released upon the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

According to the Vanguard, a source said that the federal government is actually holding back Azibola’s capacity to pay the bail sum as they owe him for some work.

He said,   “What the EFCC has not told the world is that the government is actually owing Robert and his company the sum of $4 million for the job he did which fetched the country over N1 billion in revenue.

“We have already filed a plea with the court to soften with the stringent bail conditions so that our brother can return home since he was arrested on March 21 this year by the EFCC.”
