It was a scene of singing and dancing at the Senate Building of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Thursday as reinstated Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe resumed his duties.

Ogundipe was met at the foyer by jubilant staff who congratulated him on his reinstatement by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Let us all be united. It is not about academic or non-academic staff; it is about UNILAG. Let us all work together
and allow peace in this institution,” the reinstated V-C told the staff.

Recall that Buhari, who is the Visitor to the university, earlier asked the V-C to “step aside” following serious allegations bordering on misconduct and corruption levelled against him by the university’s Governing Council led by Dr Wale Babalakin.

Like Ogundipe, the Pro-Chancellor Babalakin was equally directed to recuse himself from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by Buhari on August 21.

This was after confusion engulfed the university following Ogundipe’s suspension by the Governing Council on August 12.

However, the president on Wednesday ordered his reinstatement, saying his suspension did not follow due process.

Babalakin was relieved of his appointment as Prof-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the institution and the council dissolved.
