JUST IN: Senegal lose 2-0 to Netherlands

Sadio Mane-less Senegal lost 2-0 to Netherlands at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Monday evening.

Aliou Cisse’s wards put up a spirited performance until the 84th minute of the game, when Cody Gakpo scored from a Frenkie De Jong assist to put the Dutch side ahead in the second Group A game.

Davy Klaassen made it two for Loius van Gaal’s side nine minutes into additional time following sloppy defending from the Senegalese.

Senegal were dealt a huge blow on the eve of the Mundial when Mane was forced to withdraw from the squad with a leg injury suffered playing for German clubside, Bayern Munich earlier this month.

The Senegal captain’s place in the starting line-up was taken by Krepin Diatta of Monaco for the team’s first group game played at the Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Recall that Ecuador put two behind host nation, Qatar for the opening and firs Group A game ofhe Mundial on Sunday.
