Katsina State Govt. donates N30m relief materials to IDPs

The Katsina State Government on Sunday distributed relief materials worth N30 million to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in the state as part of efforts to alleviate their sufferings.

Dr Aminu Waziri, the Executive Secretary, Katsina State Emergency and Relief Agency (SEMA) disclosed this while distributing the items to some of the beneficiaries in Kasina.

He said that the IDPs are state indigenes who were affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast region of the country.

According to him, the agency had already conducted biometric data registration for all the IDPs in the state to avoid all forms of fraud in the system.

 

 

He said that the IDPs numbering about 4,000, were resettled in their various communities in Katsina, Sandamu, Baure, Dutsin-ma, Daura and Ingawa Local Government areas of the state.

Waziri revealed that others were still residing at the IDPs camp in Katsina.

The secretary said that the state government had constructed primary schools for their children and provided them with other basic amenities.

He said that the agency also trained them in vocational skills to enable them become self-reliant during their stay in the camps and beyond.

 

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed include bags of maize, rice, beans and millet.

Others are cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, mattresses, children wears, clothing materials for men and women, blankets and mats, among others.(NAN)
