Lagos State PDP Places Chairman, Doherty, On Suspension

The Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), suspended its chairman, Adedeji Doherty. on Friday.

The state party executive, led by Secretary, Muiz Shodipe, disclosed this at a news conference held by the party.

The suspension follows a vote of no confidence passed on Doherty due to multiple contentions.

The contentions bothered on alleged anti-party activities on the part of the suspended party Chairman.

Shodipe cited financial mismanagement and polarisation of the party as part of the reasons why Doherty bagged the suspension.

He noted that Doherty was in the habit of making unsanctioned public comments regardless of the consequences to the party.

“The chairman lacks transparency in management and accountability of the party finances and administration,” Shodipe began.

“Since assumption of office as the state chairman in the past one year, Doherty has failed to, at least, convene just one state assembly meeting.

“The assembly meeting comprised of all strata of the party at all levels, most importantly the state working committee and the state executive members,” he said.

He claimed further that Doherty was sidelining those party members who did not agree with him:.

“The chairman engages in series of anti-parties activities.

“He hobnobs with the opposition party regularly and jettisons all strategies aimed at winning the last Lagos East Senatorial by-election.”

Doherty was also accused of not operating a bank account for the party.

The suspended Chairman was said to have been using his own private bank account for party transactions.

“It is very clear that Mr. Adedeji Doherty no longer enjoys the confidence of the members.

“We, therefore, recommend him for immediate suspension from all activities of the party in Lagos.”

Doherty has denied the claims, describing it as “fake”.

Waliu Hassan, the Deputy Chairman of the party, has now been appointed as acting chairman.
