Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has said he regretted making Agboola Ajayi his deputy.

He disclosed this on Saturday at Igbekebo, the headquarters of Ese-Odo local government area, where Ajayi hails from,  during his “meet the delegates” tour ahead of the Monday governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that Ajayi decamped from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in June after falling out with Akeredolu, with whom he used to be best of friends.

He is now seeking to prevent his boss from getting a second term in office.

Akeredolu explained that many powerful individuals had criticised his choice of Ajayi as running mate but he stuck to his gun only for his deputy to betray him.

The governor said he was happy that Ajayi showed his true colours at this period as his exit has allowed the APC to do a cleansing from within.

He stressed that by not decamping with Ajayi, the elders of APC in Ese-Odo have shown that his decision was an unpopular one.

The governor vowed to do more for the council and the state as a whole if supported to clinch the party’s ticket and voted into office as governor a second time.
