Mama’s Sleeping Scarf: Chimamanda Adichie reveals title of first children’s book

Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is set to release her first children’s book titled, Mama’s Sleeping Scarf.

She made the revelation in a short video released via her verified Instagram page on Friday.

The picture book will be released under the pen name Nwa Grace James, a memorial to her late parents, James and Grace Adichie.

With illustrations by Congolese-Angolan animator and illustrator Joelle Avelino, the book will be published by HarperCollins Children’s Books in the UK and Alfred A. Knopf in the US.

It is slated for release on September 5, 2023.

“So delighted to announce that I’ve written my first children’s book, Mama’s Sleeping Scarf. It is a celebration of the joy in ordinary family life,” Adichie said in the caption of the Instagram video.
