Manchester United guaranteed their place in the League Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win at Everton, on Wednesday.

Former Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edinson Cavani, broke the stalemate in the 88th minute to give United the lead in the encounter.

French striker, Anthony Martial, secured United’s second goal of the game in added time.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit bossed the Toffees for lengthy periods of their quarter-final clash at Goodison Park.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton side made just three changes from the 2-1 win over Arsenal, as top scorer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brazilian Richarlison, both spearheaded the attack.

Manchester United made wholesale changes to their starting eleven as 9 players were left out from the team that pummeled Leeds United in the English Premier League, a few days ago.

Paul Pogba returned to the starting eleven, with only Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes keeping their spots in the team.

Robin Olsen saved Cavani’s strike from close-range before Mason Greenwood saw his header come back off the post in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Solskjaer brought on Rashford and Martial in an attacking move.

The move paid dividends as Martial assisted Cavani to score the game’s first goal with only two minutes left on the clock and a penalty shoot-out looking imminent.

Ironically, Cavani’s first goal came away against Everton in the league, last month.

With seconds to go, Everton were punished by a United counter attacking move that was finished off by Martial.

With the win, Man Utd now join Tottenham in the semis after the latter beat Stoke 3-1, on Wednesday evening.

.The recent wins come as a respite for Ole’s team following their UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of German side, Leipzig.

Man Utd are currently on a 4-match unbeaten run after that defeat.

The run includes three wins, against Sheffield United, Leeds United and Everton, with the draw coming at home against city rivals, Man City.
