Controversial Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has denied donating N2 million and car gifts to masquerades in his home town, Okene.

The governor made the clarification after observing Juma’at prayers in the Government House, Lokoja on Friday.

Deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State and former Campaign Coordinator to President Muhammadu Buhari in Lagos State, James Faleke, had accused the governor of donating six Toyota Venza cars and N2 million each to the masquerades in December 2017.

But reacting, Bello said, “I think I’m just hearing that for the first time. But let me just tell you that in Kogi State, first we promote culture, two we don’t give millions to masquerades.

“In our culture, masquerades are ancestors. I don’t know how a masquerade will go and spend money. Is it in the grave?

“They are supposed to be spirits and I don’t know how masquerades will spend money. There is nothing of that nature at all.’’
