Mbappe reintegrated into PSG first team after contract impasse

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappe has been reintegrated into the first team.

PSG disclosed this in a Sunday statement, a day after the French champions drew Lorient in their first game of the new Lique 1 season at the Parc des Princes.

“Following very constructive, positive talks between PSG and Kylian Mbappé before game vs Lorient, the player has been reinstated into first team training squad this morning,” the statement read in part.

Mbappe was spotted in the stands laughing with new club signing, Ousmane Dembele as Luis Enrique’s side struggled without him, Neymar and Marco Verratti, who were also left out of the match-day squad after expressing interest in leaving.

The club’s decision to reintegrate Mbappe into the first team puts to rest a stand-off that ensued after the 24-year-old declined to sign a new contract with a year left on his current deal with the club.

The club had put the player up for sale to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Enrique dropped the player from the squad that travelled to Japan for pre-season friendlies, and the club yanked him off their website shortly after.

On Friday, the Spaniard said he was hopeful of a solution to the ongoing contract dispute between the club and the French star, despite Mbappe declaring that he would be happy to sit the season on the sidelines rather than being sold.

It remains unclear if the star forward would sign a new deal with the club.
