The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has expressed satisfaction with the maintenance and safeguarding of federal constituency projects by communities in Kebbi State.
Alhaji Musa Abdullahi-Dantagago, Team Leader, Quarterly Supervision Mission of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Special Projects Unit (SPU) stated this in an interview with Newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team under the SPU of the ministry is in Kebbi to inspect federal constituency projects executed by members of the National Assembly representing the state.
He said: “It is gratifying to note that we have no issues with the benefitting communities here in Kebbi State because people have taken it upon themselves to guard the facilities and equipment provided.

“My advice to these communities is that they should keep vigilance, they should not relent on the efforts they are putting and they should always write to report any case of vandalism or non performance in these projects.”
He said the essence of the exercise was to ensure that quality of job was up to specification in order to stand the test of time.
According to him, the projects are specific intervention targeted at the masses.
In view of the legitimate responsibility vested on the ministry, the team leader said they had to come out and monitor such projects to ascertain the performance.
“We monitor these projects to see how many were done and how many had been abandoned just to keep the records straight, in addition, we also monitor the quality of work, both building, electrical, borehole and so on.
“Because there was no point we visited that solar lighting system experienced some vandalism or non performance of the equipment fixed,” he said.
On interaction with beneficiaries, the team leader said the communities were highly elated, adding that the beneficiaries were looking on to government to expand the programme.
“You can see in some of the villages we visited, those that befitted from borehole actually said so many things, some are saying, “even the taste of the water is different from what they used to get.
“This is because of the water treatment plant and other things that we incorporated into the facilities.
“You can imagine somebody using stream or shallow well water and suddenly he has gotten a borehole with even a treatment plant, the difference is actually big,” he added.
Abdullahi-Dantagago said after the exercise they would collate data and wherever they found deficiency they would try to improve upon it in their next award.
He said it was also their responsibility to identify some areas that required projects and propose consideration for the award in those areas.
