The Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre is expected to release the results of an autopsy conducted on singer Mohbad (real name Ilerioluwa Aloba) within the next three to four weeks. This information came to light during a coroner’s inquest into the musician’s death, which continues to generate controversy.

Dr. Richard Somiari, Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, testified at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He assured the court that the autopsy results would be thoroughly analyzed, with further testing conducted if necessary to confirm the cause of death. Somiari also emphasized the secure handling of samples and the center’s ability to collaborate with international labs for advanced toxicological analysis, should it be required.

Mohbad’s sudden death on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparked public outcry and questions surrounding the circumstances. The Lagos State Government subsequently ordered a coroner’s inquest to investigate the cause of death. The inquest began in October 2023 and has heard testimonies from various individuals.

In a separate development, Mrs. Abiodun Kolawole, representing the African Women Lawyers Association, urged Mohbad’s family to address any paternity concerns regarding the singer’s child through the legal system rather than social media.

The Coroner, Magistrate T. A. Shotobi, adjourned the inquest until April 15, 2024, and instructed all parties to be present at the next hearing. The upcoming weeks will be crucial as the autopsy results are expected to shed light on the cause of Mohbad’s death and potentially bring closure to his family and fans.
