Music executive, Dayo Adeneye, states why artists find it hard to make conscious music

In a candid discussion on The Honest Bunch Podcast, veteran music executive Dayo Adeneye, popularly known as D1, delved into the challenges faced by artists striving to create conscious music amidst the prevalent moral decay in today’s society.

Expressing his perspective, D1 highlighted the struggle for conscious music to find commercial success in the contemporary world. He emphasized that the present generation, dealing with a level of moral ambiguity and identity crises, might not readily resonate with conscious lyrics.

The world is not ready to listen to anything conscious right now. Is it this generation that doesn’t know their gender that you want to preach conscious lyrics to?” he remarked, alluding to the evolving understanding of gender identities in today’s society.

D1 also touched upon the trend of materialism he observed among women in this era. He shared concerns that many women seem to focus primarily on their physical attributes in relationships, potentially diminishing their value beyond the physical realm.

He noted that this trend might lead men to perceive them primarily for their physical attributes, impacting how they are valued in relationships.
