NEMA Distributes Food Items to 38,000 IDPs in Borno

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday distributed assorted food items to 38,000 displaced persons in various camps in Maiduguri, Borno state.

Flt. Lt. Umar Sabi, Head of NEMA food distribution in charge of Borno, distributed rice, beans, maize, tomato paste, seasoning, salt and cooking oil to the IDPs at Muna Garage camp in Maiduguri.

Sabi said the exercise was in continuation of efforts to provide succour to the IDPs,  in line with the mandate of the Minister of Humanitarian affairs Disaster Management and Social Development.

“The items were distributed through NEMA to address the needs of Internally Displaced Persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency under approval granted by Director General NEMA, AVM Muhammed Alhaji Muhammed (rtd).

“NEMA is providing food assistance to over 234, 000 displaced persons monthly who are residing in IDP camps, host communities and liberated communities in Borno state.

“This round of distribution started at Bakassi IDPs camp on May 7, 2020, and is expected to be concluded before the Sallah celebrations,” he said.
