The state Coordinator, Mr. Philip Enabuere made the disclosure at the end of the exercise which took place at Gambu village in Dogon-Daji Ward of Tambuwal LGA on Sunday.

Enabuere represented by Malam Abubakar Bawa, Assistant Director Research and Statistics NYSC, Sokoto Office, said that the exercise was part of the First quarter 2020 NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

“This assignment is generally designed by the NYSC to assist the rural communities to easily have access to our free healthcare delivery.

“Today, we have come with a team of health specialist that includes Doctors, Pharmacies, Laboratories and Nurses serving in Sokoto state.

“This is in order to assist the people with free treatment and drugs as well as necessary advice in health related matters.

“However, the exercise has ended smoothly and our specialists were able to attend to about 420 patients and 50 patients were referred to tertiary health centres for more treatment,” he said.

The Coordinator further thanked the Community leaders for their commitment in ensuring the success of the exercise and urged the people to maintain a routine medical examination in order to remain healthy.

In his address, a stakeholder in the Community, Alhaji Faruk Maiturare, Director, Boarder Community Development Agency (BCDA), thanked NYSC for initiating the exercise.

Maiturare said that the gesture was a great opportunity for the villagers who had no access to medical specialist and will surely serve in assisting and exposing the health standard of the general populace.

He appealed to governments to take such initiative as a challenge and make it a regular exercise most especially in the rural communities in order to support their health condition.

The Village Head of Gambu, Malam Husaini Dikko, commended the NYSC while thanking the members of the community for their contributions toward the development of their villages.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the major diseases identified during the exercise were hypertension, malaria, pneumonia, lypoma, Sexual Transmitted Infection and Pelvic inflammatory disease.
