Obasanjo Accused Of Supporting ACN’s Amosun For 2015

A chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, on Monday took former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his comment on the activities of rich politicians in the state and accused the former President of pulling strings to ensure the re-election of his Owu kinsman, Chief Ibikunle Amosun in 2015.

Obasanjo was said to have warned PDP members against being used by moneybags whom according to him were determined to deceive the people and deprive them of a better future. He said this last week while playing host to some party members from Ogun West Senatorial District at his Abeokuta residence.

Kashamu, in a statement, said it was laughable that the former President could now criticize the same people who bankrolled his election and long political feuds against the Gbenga Daniel administration.

“Was it not moneybag politicians that sponsored his first and second term elections? Was it not the same people in whose circles he rolled when it was convenient for him to seize the party structure from the immediate past administration in the state? Was it not the same people he used for his candidate in the last governorship election in the state? This is the sort of inconsistency that presidential spokesman Reuben Abati recently noted concerning Obasanjo,” he said.

The party stalwart declared his support for genuine efforts at reuniting the PDP family in the state, but said it was not Obasanjo’s place to set the parameters as he has continually shown his bias for imposition, do-or-die politics, injustice and illegalities which are the very issues at the root of the Ogun PDP crisis.

“Obasanjo told his guests that some moneybags want to deprive them of a better future. But if anyone is being deceitful, it is Obasanjo, who pretends to be a leader of the PDP in the daytime, but in the night is neck-deep in the re-election strategy of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of the Action Congress of Nigeria, who is his kinsman from Owu kingdom.

“This is why he does not hesitate to shower praise on Amosun whenever he gets the opportunity. The game plan is to weaken PDP for Amosun to have a smooth sail by making it appear he is performing, especially when such praises are coming from the supposed leader of the opposition.

“In respect of a better future for Ogun State people, I know that 99.9 per cent of the people are of the opinion that Obasanjo’s dominance of the national and local politics in the past five decades has made no impact on their lives. Obasanjo is a classic example of a man to whom much is given but little or nothing has been returned.”
