Occupy Nigeria calls for resignation of Uniport Vice-Chancellor

A non-governmental organization, Occupy Nigeria has called for the suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Ndowa Laale over the killing of Peter Ofurum, a student of the institution during a protest this week.

The group made this call at a media briefing held in collaboration with student union bodies, NLC and other youth groups in Port Harcourt.

The group called on the police and other security operatives to release all the students arrested during a raid in and around the institution.

They have also appealed to the Federal government to set-up a commission to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the UNIPORT crisis.

“In solidarity with the students of the University of Port Harcourt and the National Association of Nigerian Students, we condemn the brutal killing of Peter Ofurum who was until his death, the faculty President of the Management Science Students shot to death by a Police Officer during a peaceful protest.
