Former Minister for Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has defended Senate President Bukola Saraki after the police invited him for questioning over alleged links with the Offa Bank Robbery of April 5.

Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood had in a Sunday statement said, “The Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki is being invited by the Nigeria Police Force to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja to answer to the allegations levelled against him from the confessions of the Five (5) Gang Leaders and some of the other 17 suspects arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of 33 innocent persons which includes some pregnant women and nine Police personnel,”

“The five gang leaders further confessed that they are political thugs under the name Youth Liberation Movement a.k.a “Good Boys” and were sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles by the Senate President Saraki and the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.”

However, the suspected gang leader, Ayodele Akinnibosun, in an encounter with journalists, exonerated Saraki and Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed of sponsoring or having prior knowledge of the attack which the police said claimed 33 lives.

Akinnibosun added that they were political thugs of the Senate President and Kwara governor.

But reacting to the allegations via his verified Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode said he had known Saraki for 40 years and he could not have been involved in sponsoring robbers.

He said, “I have known for 40 years and our families were close. I may not agree with him on many things, including his choice of pol. party, but one thing that I can say is this: he is not an armed robber or a murderer and he is not a sponsorer of armed robbers and murderers.”
