Oyo On Fire As Amotekun Shoots Police Officer

A Policeman, identified as Fatai Yekini, has been shot by an official of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, Operation Amotekun, on Saturday.

Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the incident.

Yekini, a special police constable  attached to Ojongbodu Police Station, is said to have been shot by Ibrahim Ogundele, the Amotekun officer, at the Sanga area in Oyo town.

The incident which occurred around 3pm, during a New Year carnival, is said to have left the Policeman nursing serious injuries.

Reports say that a team of policemen from Ojongbodu had reached the scene of the carnival to disperse the crowd gathered there when the Amotekun officer opened fire on the policeman.

The Amotekun official was subsequently arrested and placed in police custody, with the injured Policeman rushed to an unspecified hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for his bullet wounds.

“This happened when policemen at Ojongbodu Division, Oyo were responding to calls to dislodge recalcitrant youths staging carnival after several warnings that such should not be staged.

The Amotekun personnel has since been arrested and currently being investigated at Ojongbodu Police station,” Fadeyi confirmed to newsmen.
