The Police Command in Plateau said the Christmas and boxing day celebrations were marked peacefully in the state.
DSP Terna Tyopev, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos, that there was no security threat recorded in any part of the state.
Tyopev said the rancour free celebration was a result of the proactive steps taken by the command in ensuring a serene atmosphere during the festivities.
“We didn’t record any threat to security in the course of the festivity; Christmas and Boxing days were peacefully celebrated.
“This did not just happen, but for the stringent steps we took and the effectiveness of our men whom we stationed at strategic locations,” he said.
The PPRO commended residents of the state for cooperating with the security agencies, and urged them to be law abiding at all times.
NAN recalled that the command had deployed 2046 personnel and patrol vehicles to ensure a crime free celebration in the state.
Also, the command banned tricycle operation, sale and use of fireworks, and warned that anyone caught in the act would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Similarly, Mr Andrew Bala, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau, said the celebration was an accident free one.
“We have not recorded any road crashes in our jurisdiction during the festivities,” Bala said.
He explained that there was also free flow of traffic, particularly within Jos and environs.
Bala, however, warned motorists against overloading, overspeeding, driving with open boots and drunk driving, saying anyone caught would be charged accordingly.
He advised road users to obey traffic rules and regulations as well as desist from night driving, particularly during the festive season. (NAN)
