Popular Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, known by his stage name Portable, was released on bail on Wednesday evening after being arrested by Lagos State Police.
The arrest, which took place on Tuesday, stemmed from an alleged dispute over a car payment. Portable reportedly purchased a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 from Lagos car dealer Ogunsanwo Temitope (Temmy Autos) for N27 million but only paid N13 million. The remaining N14 million balance remained unsettled.
Details surrounding the resolution of the dispute are unclear. While Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benajmin Hundeyin confirmed Portable’s release, he could not confirm whether the outstanding amount had been paid.
This incident comes amidst Portable’s recent success with his hit song “Zazzu.” It remains to be seen if the car payment dispute will have any further impact on the musician’s career.
