PSG equaled their own record in the Ligue 1 by thrashing Guingamp 9 goals to nothing, causing their coach to be awestruck. The very entertaining match saw Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani record Hatricks while a sensational Neymar also scored a brace. The match was a complete humiliation for Guingamp. However, PSG will relish in their victory as it further places them as the best in the French league in recent years.
While expressing his delight to journalists after the match, PSG’s manager, Tuchel said, “I have to think about it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before – 9-0 in a league game.”
“We really wanted to score, we played with a lot of quality. We improved during the second half and played very smoothly with a good offensive structure. There were also a lot of attacks, a lot of players in the penalty area. We had a lot of opportunities to score and created many more chances.
“After the first, second, third goal, we played with a lot of confidence. We did simple things but very quickly and decisively. We are very satisfied and very happy.”
The Hatricks from Cavani and Mbappe make them the second set of players to have scored Hatricks in a competitive match during a Ligue 1 match in the last 45 years.
Cavani’s Hatrick also means he now has more than a century of goals for PSG. However, Cavani explained that the match was just a payback since Guingamp had earlier defeated them in their French Cup fixtures some days before.
