Ramadan: We’ll ensure safety, security of all Nigerians – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to ensure the safety, security and well-being of all Nigerians during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, gave the assurance in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Monday.

Recall that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, had declared Monday, March 11, as the first day of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.

In its statement, the police boss greeted all Muslim Ummah across the country on the Ramadan season, which he described as “a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and communal solidarity which holds great significance for millions of Muslim faithful around the world”.

“During this holy period, the Nigeria Police reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all citizens.

“The Police, as an institution, recognizes the importance of respecting religious practices and cultural traditions and the need to promote the principles of tolerance, understanding, and unity within our diverse society.

“The IGP urges all Muslim Ummah to embrace the spirit of compassion, generosity, and forgiveness that defines Ramadan. He calls for all to come together, support one another, foster a sense of harmony, and build stronger bonds of friendship and cooperation in the holy month and beyond,” the statement read in part.

IGP Egbetokun further urged the public to to embrace the community policing concept and charged Nigerians to support the police’s efforts to maintain peace and order throughout the month of Ramadan.
