Manchester United record goalscorer, Wayne Rooney has described former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo as “selfish”.

He said this while appearing to support former Chelsea star, Eden Hazard’s recent comment claiming to be a better “pure footballer” than Ronaldo.

Rooney, 38, spoke to YouTubers Lyes Bouzidi and CultureCams.

Comparing Ronaldo to his perceived career rival Lionel Messi, Rooney said the Al-Nassr forward cares more about getting goals while the Inter Miami forward favours creating more chances for his teammates.

“So for instance, Cristiano Ronaldo, his mindset is goals. He doesn’t care about anything else, it’s goals, that’s all he wants. Whereas you look at Messi, he wants to play a bit more.

“I suppose that’s what Hazard is saying, he liked to play – exactly like myself,” he said.

In January, Rooney was sacked as manager of Championship side, Birmingham City following a string of poor performances following his appointment.

He lost nine of the 15 games he took charge of at the club.
