Russia 2018: DR Congo Draw Super Eagles In Friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw against visiting DR Congo at the Adokiye Amiesiemakha Stadium in Port Harcourt on Monday evening.

Coach Gernot Rohr’s squad had gone 1-0 up through defender William Troost-Ekong within the first 20 minutes of the encounter before slopping defensive play enabled the visitors to grab an equaliser through the penalty spot, with Ngulubi sending goalkeeper Francis Uzoho the wrong way.

The Russia 2018 tune-up game featured a lot of talking points with Bournemouth’s Benik Afobe keeping the Nigerian defence perpetually on their toes and debutant Simeon Nwankwo of Crotone proving to be more than a handful for the Congolese defence.

The game afforded the German tactician an opportunity to access his 30-man squad ahead of a further pruning to a final 23-man squad to be submitted to world football governing body FIFA.

The Eagles will on Tuesday head to London for their friendly against the Three Lions of England on Saturday, and Czech Republic on June 6.
