Saudi Crane Collapse: Buhari Orders Embassy To Protect Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to take actions to ensure the security and well-being of Nigerian pilgrims in the holy land.

This is coming after the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed, on Saturday confirmed that three Nigerians were indeed injured in the Saudi crane collapse which claimed at least 107 lives and left numerous others injured.

The collapse was said to have been caused by strong winds that broke one of the cranes being used in the expansion of the dimensions of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

The President commiserated with King Salman, the people of Saudi Arabia and the worldwide Islamic community over the tragic loss of lives.

Buhari also urged Nigerians to pray for the continued safety of their compatriots currently in Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj.

The main pilgrimage will commence around September 21 this year, and millions from all over the world are expected to participate in the observance of this religious injunction.
