The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has expressed concerns over two threats that could jeopardise the 2019 general election.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) senator made this known in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday morning.

According to Sani, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), vote buying and intimidation of opponents using state resources could mar the election if not urgently addressed.

The senator identified “mass vigilance” as the only way to neutralise the threats posed by these two factors.

He said, “There are two major threats to the credibility of the 2019 general elections; The massive use of public resources to buy votes & voters & The cruel misuse & abuse of the state apparatuses to intimidate opponents, temper & manipulate the process.Mass vigilance is the neutralizer.”

There were reports of massive vote buying in the recent Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections, with the leading APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accusing each other of buying votes.

The presidential candidate of the PDP and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was subjected to a search at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Sunday morning, a move he said was orchestrated to intimidate him and members of his campaign team.
