Colombian singer, Shakira Mebarak, was on Thursday arraigned before the Esplugues de Llobregat court in Spain over tax fraud.

The talented pop singer was said to have failed to pay up to 14.5 million euros ($16.29 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

Shakira entered the court through the car park entrance, to avoid the media and was seen briefly through a window.

Trouble started for Shakira when prosecutors filed charges last December for the period they said the singer was living in the region of Catalonia.

However, Shakira’s lawyer insisted that she did not live in Spain until 2015 and had met all her tax obligations.

The 42-year-old singer has been with Gerard Pique, FC Barcelona defender since 2011, with the two having two children.
