The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced a nationwide ban on the sale of alcohol, on Monday.

The announcement follows after the Southern African nation became the first in the continent to record 1 million cases of Coronavirus.

In addition, citizens must wear face masks when in public spaces, President Ramaphosa said.

As per a report from leading global news agency, AFP, President Ramaphosa also announced that all beaches and public swimming pools in the country’s majorly infected cities be shut down.

The concerned cities in the country include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and several coastal areas.

The South African President also announced that the country will be extending its nighttime curfew by four hours.

Residents will, therefore, be requested to remain at home from the hours of 9 pm till 6 am.

The announced ban on alcohol sales, as well as other new restrictions, would take effect from midnight, on Monday.
