South African Beauty Queen Wins Miss Universe

Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa has been crowned Miss Universe at the contest which was held at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday.

The beauty contestant from South Africa was cheered by many after delivering her speech in which she talked about empowering young women to feel confident about their bodies.

She said;

“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful,” she said.

“I think that it is time that that stops today,” she said to thunderous applause.

Tunzi beat more than 90 contestants from around the globe in the 68th instalment of Miss Universe.

She is the third black woman to be crowned Miss South Africa and the first black woman to win Miss Universe after Leila Lopes in 2011
