ASUU Strike: NANS President Threatens to Shut Down Private Universities

The newly elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr. Sunday Asefon has threatened to shut down all private universities in the country.

He made this known while speaking in an interview with The Punch.

Asefon expressed his disappointment while pointing out that the presently ongoing nationwide strike which has lasted for about 9 months and counting is the longest industrial action university lecturers have ever embarked on.

The NANS President further stated that the association would engage the Federal government and ASUU’s leaders in a joint entente with the sole aim of procuring an effective solution to the impasse negotiations that have been going on between the two sides.

He however vowed that if no positive results are achieved following a consultation with both arms and the strike presses on, he would take it upon himself to ensure that all tertiary institutions, including private-owned are shut down completely.
