Unknown gunmen suspected to be cultists have axed an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Egbe Eko Edum to death in Calabar, Cross River State

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning around along Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar by Pepsi depot.

ACP Edum was attached to the No. 73 PMF Squadron, Magumeri, Borno state, and was in Calabar to see his family when the incident occurred around 1:00 am.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Cross River State Command, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident.

She further confirmed that the slain senior officer was in Calabar to see his family but arrived in the night.

She said the victim “is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who serves in Borno State; he is not serving here. I think he was coming to see his family here in Cross River, he arrived in Calabar at about 1:00 am when the incident happened.”

The police spokesman said that after alighting from a public transport that brought him into town, the Assistant Commissioner of Police called his wife and waited for her arrival.

It was during this wait that the unknown gunmen attacked him, Ugbo said.

“He dropped off from a public transport and had called his wife to pick him up before he was attacked by the unknown men. We are investigating the incident and the family has recovered the body from the scene,” the police spokesman added.
