According to THENETNG, Tiwa Savage’s husband and show promoter could be prosecuted following the alleged attempt to take his life last week.

According to the Section 327 of the Nigerian Criminal Code, “Any person who attempts to kill himself is guilty of a misdemeanour and liable to imprisonment for 1 year”.

Although several lawyers told the news agency that the law has never really been enforced as there’s no record of anyone who has been convicted, it was noted that the end point of such cases would be a psychiatric test to ascertain the mental stability of such an individual.

A lawyer said that: “such cases are usually handled by medical personnel who assess the mental state of the individual and try to offer treatment for depression and other mental disorders.’

On the alleged use of hard substance, cocaine, the lawyer said: “most legal systems focus on possession or possession with the intention to distribute. So it would be more defamatory than actionable for someone to make such accusations in the media since he who alleges must prove”.
