Teenager in court for attempting to snatch a woman’s purse

The police on Tuesday arraigned an 18-year-old man Moruf Waheed, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for attempting to snatch a woman’s bag.

The defendant, unemployed, whose address was not provided is charged with intent to steal.

The Police Counsel, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 23, at about 4.30 p.m. at Alapere Bus Stop in Lagos.

He said that the defendant and one other at large, attempted to snatch a lady’s handbag.

Ihiehie alleged that the defendant accosted the complainant on her way back from work.

The offence, he added, violated the provisions of Section 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 406 stipulates seven years imprisonment for intent to commit felony if convicted.

Magistrate Bukola Mogaji  admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of  N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mogaji adjourned  the case until May 7, for mention. (NAN)
