Renowned Nigerian music sensation, Inetimi Alfred Timaya, popularly known as Timaya, has candidly revealed details about his struggles with substance abuse during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The acclaimed singer shared his experiences in an exclusive interview with The Beat 99.9 FM on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Timaya, recognized for hit tracks like “Bum Bum” and “Dem Mama,” openly admitted that he is not perfect and has, at times, experimented with drugs. Reflecting on the unusual circumstances of the pandemic-induced lockdown, Timaya recounted encountering some young individuals who appeared remarkably content during that period.
As someone who manages a successful career and possesses significant wealth, Timaya’s curiosity was piqued by the seemingly joyous demeanor of these young men. He discovered that their source of happiness was a potent drug known as Molly. Intrigued by the allure, Timaya decided to try the substance himself.
During the initial encounters with Molly, Timaya acknowledged feeling an intense sense of pleasure, which led to impulsive decisions like generously giving away his money. However, as he continued using the drug, he started noticing adverse effects on his well-being. The singer recounted a significant weight loss, realizing it was a consequence of taking three pills of the drug daily.
