Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham took to social media platform [Twitter] today to celebrate the achievements of her colleague, Mercy Aigbe.
Abraham’s post emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the Nigerian film industry.
“Today, I want to celebrate two people in Nollywood,” Abraham began. “Events in time past try to make us competitors and we all know how fierce competition can be in the industry.“
She acknowledged the negative aspects of competition, where actors and actresses are pitted against each other, fostering an environment of negativity.
Abraham then championed the idea of celebrating each other’s successes: “It is time we celebrate ourselves more rather than compete with ourselves. We need to create an ecosystem of more successful people so we can all have more capability to create more successful people.“
Abraham specifically praised Aigbe’s recent achievements. “Mercy Aigbe, I celebrate the woman that you are becoming,” she wrote. “You came to the box office in December as a first-timer, and you proved your mettle. You gave it your all. You have contributed to the story of strong women in Nollywood. You made many women proud.“
She playfully concluded with a promise to promote Aigbe’s upcoming project: “@realmercyaigbe, If you come to cinema in December, I owe you one post (Lol, you know I need to sell market o).“
