Tragedy: Truck kills policeman over alleged N50 bribe in Imo

A truck has crushed a police officer to death along Owerri/Okigwe expressway in Imo state.

The Herald gathered that the truck crushed the officer after the cop had waved at it to stop allegedly to collect the usual N50 bribe on Wednesday, February 12.

The ugly incident occurred at Atta in the Ikeduru local government area of Imo state, causing a heavy traffic gridlock.

It was learnt that the lifeless body of the police officer was seen on the ground while police operatives who were at the scene of the incident cordoned the area from the people.

It was also gathered the trailer which was on a speed lane and blared his horns repeatedly and rammed on the police officer who refused to go out from the tarred road.

An eyewitness said other police officers at the scene of the incident went after the truck but said he was not sure if they were able to get him. The police command in the state has also confirmed the ugly incident.

In a related development, The Herald reported that Nigerian Police Force (NPF) reacted to a viral video which surfaced online yesterday showing a Policeman allegedly collecting bribe using a POS machine.

In reaction to the viral video which has been making rounds on the internet, the Nigerian Police Force took to its Facebook page to address the video.

In the statement released on its page, the Nigeria Police Force noted that it had once used a handheld machines to verify vehicle registration details.

It further added that whoever had encountered the POS situation with any police officer should come forward with proof.

It wrote: “Re: VIDEO – “Nigerian police man caught on camera using POS machine to collect bribe. Nigeria Police Force once used handheld machines to verify vehicle registration details. I’m sure we all know Bank requirements on issuance of PoS.
