U-20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Qualify Despite Ukraine Draw

1 Min Read

The Flying Eagles have secured quarterfinal qualification despite Thursday night’s 1-1 draw against Ukraine at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

Paul Aigbogun’s boys picked up four points after three games in Group D, but progressed as one of four best losers, having recorded a huge win against Qatar.

Ukraine with 7 points and the United States with 6 points picked up the two automatic tickets in the group.

The Flying Eagles were at risk of being knocked out of the tournament after Ukraine’s Danylo Sikan headed home in the 30th minute but Muhamed Tijani converted a VAR-awarded penalty to restore parity.

Tijani, who plays as a forward for Banik Ostrava, had lost a penalty few seconds to half time, with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin parrying his effort to safety.
