The incident has generated much debate on social media and in mainstream media in Edo, with many commentators erroneously identifying the operatives as policemen.

But in a terse clarification, the Police Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) disclosed that the men were operatives of a “sister security agency”.

In the statement, the young men being rounded up were identified as “members of a violent kidnap for ransom syndicate”.

Read full statement, “It has been established that the armed men in the viral video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force but operatives of a sister security agency.
