Why NFF can’t sack underperforming Gernot Rohr – Senator Sani

The senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani says it is “impossible” for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr.

He said that this was so because of the compensation clause inserted into the contract of the 68-year-old German coach.

Sani said that Nigeria was stuck with Rohr, noting that the NFF would have to cough out $2 million to pay off the Super Eagles coach if sacked.

The vocal Sani stated this in a tweet on Friday while reacting to reports that pressure was being mounted on Rohr, who signed a contract renewal in May 2020, to resign.

Since his signing in August 2016, Rohr has led the Eagles to a Nations Cup, in 2019, where the team placed third, and the 2018 World Cup, where the team crashed out in the group stage.

On Tuesday, his team failed to beat Cape Verde during a 2022 World Cup qualifiers game played in Lagos, setting many Super Eagles fans against him.
