Why Osinbajo Wants “Strictly Private” Wedding For Daughter

It is no longer news that Kiki Osinbajo, the daughter of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Oluseun Bakare, the son of billionaire businesswoman, Hajia Bola Shagaya, will be getting married come March 17.

However, it has been revealed that Osinbajo wants a “strictly private” affair.

The vice president is said to have been unsettled by the widespread criticism that followed the wedding of the children of the Oyo and Kano state governors over the weekend.

He is equally said to be moved by the need to organise a ceremony that will reflect the “mood of the nation”.

Majority of critics of Saturday’s wedding between the governors’ children queried why President Muhammadu Buhari and 22 state governors would converge in Kano for a wedding while the whereabouts of 110 Dapchi girls still remain a mystery and Boko Haram continue to conduct serious attacks.

The critics described the president’s and governors’ actions as “insensitive”.

Perhaps to avoid this, Osinbajo has reportedly elected to organise a small wedding ceremony, with everything except the church service holding within the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

TheCable quoted a family source as saying, “Left to the VP and his wife, it would have been the smallest and simplest of ceremonies, taking place in their backyard, especially given the current mood of the nation.

“Nonetheless the VP seems to be swiming against a rather strong tide. For instance the VP’s position compels him to inform and invite dignitaries, many of who will cry blue murder if left out of the invitations.

“But for a man known for his unassuming nature and humble mien, these circumstances have invited the dilemma of how to moderate the occasion and balance out the wedding outlook considering the current mood of the nation.”
